In 2005, Sagem merged with SNECMA to form SAFRAN. Sagem's communications business became SAGEM Communication, a subsidiary of SAFRAN. The company's defence electronics business became Sagem Défense Sécurité. The Safran group has 55,000 employees worldwide. They continue to expand their global presence, in particular by opening new facilities in North America, China, India and Russia.
